How to play
Read the clues
The board is divided into the rooms of a chess club: the Library, the Garden… Every clue is true: “the rook is in the Library”, “the knight is not in the Garden”, “the bishop is higher up than the king”.
Place the white pieces
King, rook, bishop, knight and pawn, never a queen. One piece in every row, every column and every room. The placement is unique, so nothing is hidden and nothing needs guessing.
Find the mate
With every piece placed, tap the one empty square where the black king would be checkmated. Real chess rules, one right square.
Four levels
Easy on 4 × 4, then Medium, Hard and Expert on 5 × 5. At Expert, no row or column is ever given.
A board a day
A daily board, the same for everyone, and a streak to keep.
Two more games in the app
Hidden Pieces, where the numbers tell how many pieces attack each square, and Which Piece Checkmates?, a real position with a “?” square and three pieces, only one of which mates.
The Games Room
